From Busia to the World, and Back Again

My story begins in Busia, a place that will forever be my home. Growing up, I witnessed both the deep community spirit and the very real struggles that define daily life for many of our people. I experienced it firsthand, moving between various primary schools across the county, following my mother’s work. She was a teacher, a single mother who dedicated her life to educating others, and she is my greatest inspiration. Through her, I learned the true meaning of resilience, sacrifice, and the profound power of education to change a life.

These early experiences shaped my determination to find solutions, not just sympathize with problems. I carried this drive with me to Kakamega High School, and later to Kenyatta University, where I trained as a teacher myself. It was there I began to understand how systemic challenges could be addressed—not just in the classroom, but through better systems and smarter tools. This realization led me to a new path: I pursued higher education in the United States, specializing in Information Technology.

My journey from the classrooms of Busia to the tech hubs of America gave me a unique perspective. I saw how technology could unlock potential, streamline services, and create opportunities that were previously unimaginable. I knew I had to bring this knowledge back home, not for personal gain, but to uplift the community that raised me.

My mission is clear: to use my expertise in information technology as a catalyst for change in Busia and beyond. I understand the struggles of our people—the lack of resources, the limited access to information, and the barriers to opportunity. I am determined to change that. Whether it’s through creating educational platforms, supporting digital literacy, or developing systems that help our local businesses and charities, my goal is to empower my community with the tools they need to build a better future.
